Spontaneous as Rain

Oh Phooey. (Yes, I was looking for a chance to use that word.)

We were spontaneous. We were excited.
We packed coolers, lined up towels. We were “going to the beach today!”

We, meaning the kids and I, the best mother-in-law in the whole world, the best neighbors in the whole world (we have many best neighbors – the whole neighborhood is wonderful – in this case, I mean the best neighbors behind us).

Everything was set to be perfect.

Last week, my mother in law had her piano tuned and the tuner noticed the paintings of Sea Isle, NJ. He made a comment, and Becky said, “actually, my son bought those for me, but I have never been there.” So, when Laura and I decided on Sea Isle, without knowing of this story, and told Becky, she was like “Of course I’m going!” (Though, she’ll readily admit that any time there’s a beach plan, no matter where, she’ll drop everything and go!)

Then, around midnight, a storm system blew in and changed everything. Now, the forecast is showers. All day.

And, it’s not even the kind where it’s for-sure. It’s iffy. Fifty-percent chance with showers currently “in the vicinity”. Here, the chance for rain is the same, and it says “scattered” . This means that it could be raining here, but not at Becky’s, or vice-versa, which happens all the time.

Rather than packing everyone up and getting stuck in 93 degree mugginess, mostly cloudy, and rain (the whole state of NJ is green with rain on the weather map) with a car full of little ones we decided to take our packed coolers and head for an adventure…. the pool. Five minutes away as opposed to a few hours way. (Really, it’s an adventure here every day. But why not throw other variables into the scenario? Like water, sunscreen and towels? Sand would have been a nice variable…)

Well, at least I get an extra hour of sleep out of this.

*Yaaaaawwwwnnn* I’m going back to bed.

  1. I didn’t get back to sleep! I walked by the boys room and Aiden sat up. “MORNING, MOM!” he said. Oh well.

  2. Phooey x 2! It keeps getting darker and darker over here. The humidity is so lovely, eh? Maybe we’ll catch up with you all at the pool today! 🙂

  3. Never did go to the pool. Rained all day. The annoying, spitting kind. Phooey x 3.
