misc/earJust got back from the doctors. Aiden has yet another ear infection. He has been running around and screaming like a madman all day – unless he was being held. He weighs 30lbs, so the “holding” part didn’t last for more than 5 mins at a time. When Dr. John looked at Aiden’s charts, she noted that he had just had a double ear infection and pneumonia. Pnuemonia? I guess the croup was the “phone” diagnosis, but the pneumonia was the after-listening-to-the-chest diagnosis. Fun. I wonder what Micah had?
By the time we got to the pharmacy, we had been out for three hours. The kids were done. It took 20 minutes before the medicine was ready – drive through drop off. All the kids were screaming. So I parked the car, turned it off, got out, shut the door and leaned against the car in the rain while they all screamed.
Steve and Diana had a baby boy this morning at 7:25 a.m, after a long labor.
He weighed 8 lbs 3 oz, and everyone is reportedly doing well.
We’ll probably wait a couple days till Tom gets back to go visit – that was quite an endeavor! Also, we’ll have our camera, so we’ll have to put some pics up.
Congratulations!!
album17/IMG_0742 My sister in law, Diana, has been in labor all day. Contractions are finally 5 minutes apart. Hopefully, things will speed up for her. Just talked to Steve. Sounds like she’s doing great!
Just an FYI – to those of you who were curious :
There simply is not enough vinegar in Cattleman’s BBQ Sauce to cause a reaction when mixed with baking soda. Not even when the ratio is 1.5 gallons BBQ to 10 lbs Soda.
It still doesn’t’ t work, even if it’s really really really mixed in well, as in to the point of a slimy paste.
AND — if you were really curious about it reacting to its environment, it still does not bubble and froth when it’s spread on every item in the pantry, including a 2 ft x 4 ft floor surface. (Or, at least, this was the visible part. I do believe some has been absorbed into the flour bags. My apologies if I cannot be scientifically accurate.)
Another observation: There really are no health benefits to this mixture. It does nothing for the softness of skin, even if slathered all over your body, including the inside of your diaper. It doesn’t matter if you’re a boy or a girl, or if you are age two or three. There simply are no skin-softening benefits. It does not make your hair shiny. Not even if you apply the mixture twice within a ten minute period. Results do not change, even with the “wash, rinse, and repeat” principle.
I thought I would provide this information as a public service announcement for anyone who was interested in this unique experiment.

“Go back to bed, Tabitha – they’re just fireworks”
“But I’m scared.”
“They’re not going to hurt you, it’s just a pop-pop noise”
“But it does hurt me. It hurts my feelings.”
“Be strong Tabitha, go put your head on your pillow”
“I’m not strong, I’m just a little girl! I’m not big enough!”
PicsOfKids/DSC07141 Our friends Billy and Jin had the kids and I over for dinner. Their daughter Ellie is a little older than Micah.
There was a playground in their development and Bill took some pictures and emailed them to Tom. (Tom has our camera.)
Bill: “You didn’t tell me Aiden was a climber.” LOL. (Darn! Did I forget to mention that??) Bill had taken the kids to the playground while I stayed behind with Jin and fed Micah.
He also made balloon animals for the children. Tabitha and Aiden wanted dogs (blue and pink) and Thomas got a fish – with a little “Jonah” balloon floating inside.
Upon seeing Micah’s picture, Tom said, “Aww.. Micah’s getting big!” (He had told Micah not to grow while he was gone… disobedient brat!)

Today, Aiden’s eardrum burst. Lots of blood all over his ear and neck. At least he’s feeling better afterwards.
Micah’s still wheezing, but threw up a lot of phlegm this afternoon. He seems to be breathing slightly better.
I’m pretty tired, but can make it till bedtime. My friend Wendy is coming over to help with the kid’s nebulizer treatments and with baths. What she doesn’t know yet is that the kids were climbing in poison ivy, and that it’ll be a detergent bath. Hopefully, she won’t run away
misc/rosemary On Thursday, I planted an herb garden on the side of the house in an old flower bed. The weeds’ root structure was so thick that I basically shovelled all of the dirt out of the flowerbed and shook it through a sieve made of chicken wire over a large bucket. Then, I dumped the smooth, fine dirt back into the bed.
Aiden and I planted Rosemary, Oregano, Sweet Basil, It. Parsley and Dill.
Nearby, I planted cucumber and zucchini vines.
In containers, I have tomatoes, jalapeƱos, habaneros, and cayenne.
By the garage, the blackberries are looking plentiful! They’re all green at this point, but many berry buds are visible.
Looking forward to harvest!
The weather is beautiful!
Pig was put on the grill about 7am this morning. Looking forward to this afternoon!!
Grandma Nancie, Becky and Kate all helped clean the house. Grandpa Tom and Ben Battaglia helped with Strawberries. Tom’s brothers have helped with everything from taking down storm windows to keeping Aiden from touching the grill. The Judges brought over their canopy and helped to set up. Sounds like a lot of the neighbors are coming, as well as various friends. We’re excited.
UPDATE: We’ve got pictures up!
misc/NOTPregOh great. What if I am? How am I going to handle this? Well, at least I’ll have nine months to think about it. Hopefully, Tom will have at least a slight pay raise by then… Maybe it’ll be a girl this time.. too many boys… Leah Grace … Wait… Wait… no line in the first box… line in the second box…. PHEW!”

Sarah-and-Tom/s_t16_19I was cleaning my dresser today and realized I only had one copy of this picture and wanted to scan it in to save.
This is Tom and I in 1997, just before my 17th birthday. My mom took the photo in our front yard at our house in Phoenixville, PA.
We had just realized how much we liked to hang out with each other. I’m not sure if we were officially dating at the time of this picture.
Shortly afterwards, I moved with my family from Pennsylvania back to Indiana. What a difficult time apart!
For a while, it was the only photo I had of Tom and I together and it has been on every dresser top since – from my room at my parent’s house, to my dorm room, and now at our house.
